Exhibition Period: July 3, 2026 — October 7, 2026 Exhibition Venue: Shanghai Art Museum (China Art Museum) Address: No. 205 Shangnan Road, Pudong New Area, Shanghai Exhibition Preview As one of the largest-scale and highest-level exhibitions of Mawangdui archaeological discoveries held outside Hunan Province in more than five decades, “A House of a Thousand Pieces of Gold: The Aesthetic Lifestyle and Cultivation of the Mawangdui Han Tombs” National Treasure Art Exhibition brings together numerous Han dynasty national treasures, presenting the artistic achievements, aesthetics of daily life, and spiritual world of the early Western Han period. The exhibition features selected national-level cultural relics from Mawangdui Tomb No. 1, including the T-shaped silk painting and the oil-painted double-layer rectangular lacquered cosmetic box, both classified as cultural relics prohibited from being taken out of China. It also presents several rare artifacts displayed to the public for the first time or exhibited outside their home institution for the first time. Centered on the theme of “A House of a Thousand Pieces of Gold,” the exhibition is structured around three major sections—“The Eye of Patterns,” “The Order of Objects,” and “The Thoughts of Heaven and Humanity.” Through a contemporary aesthetic approach, it transforms archaeological artifacts into immersive cultural experiences, reinterpreting the connections between life, virtue, time, and the universe. The exhibition also features immersive spaces such as “Lady Xin Zhui’s Dressing Room” and “Lady Xin Zhui’s Kitchen,” combined with AI interactive experiences, allowing visitors to explore the Han dynasty philosophy of “harmony between heaven and humanity” through multiple dimensions. In conjunction with the exhibition, Shanghai Art Museum will also launch a series of public education programs, offering cultural interpretations from various perspectives, including clothing, medicine, astronomy, and calendrical studies, guiding visitors to explore the enduring charm of Chinese civilization embodied in the Mawangdui Han Tombs.
