Exhibition Dates: June 10, 2026 – September 7, 2026 Venue: Bright Dairy Special Exhibition Hall I, Ground Floor, Shanghai Museum East Branch Address: 1952 Century Avenue, Pudong New Area, Shanghai Exhibition Introduction As a major exhibition in Shanghai Museum’s “Why China” series, Qin: The Road to Unification — Archaeological Treasures Exhibition brings together more than 320 sets of precious artifacts and the latest archaeological discoveries through collaboration with major museums and archaeological institutions in Gansu and Shaanxi Provinces. The exhibition systematically presents the process by which Qin rose from a frontier vassal state during the Western Zhou period to ultimately unify the six states and establish a centralized empire. Although the Qin Dynasty existed for only a relatively short period in the long course of Chinese civilization, it profoundly influenced the structure of the Chinese state and social order for more than two thousand years thereafter. Bronze ritual vessels, weapons, chariot and horse fittings, weights and measures, and artifacts related to the Qin administrative system are among the highlights of the exhibition. These objects not only possess immense historical significance but also serve as important keys to understanding the formation of Chinese political civilization and cultural identity. For collectors and enthusiasts, this exhibition represents a “history of the formation of the Chinese state” written through artifacts. Particularly noteworthy is the exhibition’s presentation of numerous important archaeological discoveries that have either been publicly displayed for the first time in recent years or have rarely left their excavation sites. For collectors interested in bronze artifacts, early state institutions, military civilization, and ancient Chinese governance, this exhibition offers a rare academic feast.
