Exhibition Period: September 26 – November 23, 2025 Venue: Shanghai Museum, People’s Square, 2nd Floor Exhibition Hall II Address: 201 People’s Avenue, Huangpu District, Shanghai Exhibition Overview Lacquerware—shimmering, refined, and deeply cultural—embodies the essence of East Asian craftsmanship. “Red and Green Splendour: Masterpieces of Lacquerware from the Song, Yuan, and Ming Dynasties” gathers over a hundred masterpieces from China and Japan, tracing a millennium of artistry and exchange. With six thematic chapters, the exhibition reveals how form, technique, and aesthetics evolved from the Song through the Ming dynasties, presenting both excavated relics and treasured works from Japan’s temples and museums—many designated as Important Cultural Properties. It is a dialogue of civilizations, where the luminous surface of lacquer reflects both artistic perfection and enduring cultural resonance.
